Saving our lives in our own hands

Apropos to the report "112 Covid cases in Goa, highest in three months" (The Goan Everyday, December 29, 2021). Coronavirus is out to finish us all. It does not discriminate between Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs. It does not attack the rich while ignoring the poor. It knows what it wants to do. It goes about its job silently and consistently. Therefore, the government can ramp up the healthcare infrastructure. The government can run awareness campaigns. The government can stockpile oxygen cylinders to meet the emergency situations. It can also motivate the eligible population to get vaccinated at an authorised centre near their house.

If the push comes to shove, government can enforce lockdown that will again wipe out the livelihoods and leave poor people poorer. It is high time people of Goa begin to put a premium on their life. Saving our lives is in our own hands. Protecting ourselves from Coronavirus is in our own hands. Mask up. Wear a double mask. Maintain social distancing. Keep sanitising hands. If possible, keep taking immunity boosting medicines. Let us pledge to fight Coronavirus by taking all the WHO prescribed precautions and save lives. It is the need of the hour.
