The proven oil reserves of the world is about 1.7 to 2.1 trillion barrels and the current production of crude oil is 81.8 million barrels per day with the main reserves being in Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Canada and so it works out that proven oil reserves will last for 47 to 56 years. The world does not want to run out of oil as well the emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides as well as particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10 is reaching high proportions. Therefore it would be prudent that petrol and diesel vehicles be phased out proportionately and the use of electric vehicles is increased over and above what is being now bought. Consequently, the number of charging stations will increase thus adding to the increase in the infrastructure for wider usage of electric vehicles. It should also be stressed that since heavy duty trucks are now being run on electricity and thus in the near future EVs will be able to run on bigger and greater capacity batteries so that longer and greater mileage will become available. The 5 per cent electrical vehicles which are now being bought should therefore become 10 and 15 per cent faster.
