Two brothers were reportedly electrocuted at Rivona while cutting grass. It is learnt that the brothers accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire allegedly laid to ward off wild animals from nearby fields. It is common knowledge that farmers put up live electric wire fencing in order to protect their fields from animals. However, as there is no control over such activities, it can prove very dangerous for humans. It is pertinent to note that farmers can also use solar-powered fencing to protect crops by creating a barrier that delivers a safe, non-lethal electric shock. The system consists of an electric fence powered by a solar panel.
It provides cost-effective, eco-friendly security, thereby reducing crop damage and creating a psychological deterrent against trespassers and predators. A solar fence can also be connected to an alarm system in order to alert farmers. Such solar-powered fencing does away with reliance on grid power. The system also includes features for the power to trip if an animal gets stuck for too long. Fences illegally connected to the main power grid are dangerous, and they should be replaced by solar-powered fences which give a non-lethal shock. Necessary signboards also need to be put up to warn people of the electric fence.
