Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, speaking to the media on Tuesday, stated that his government will start the process of refunding money taken from victims under the pretext of offering government jobs. This will involve seizing the properties of those accused in the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scam. He also emphasised that no one will be spared, regardless of political affiliation, and urged the opposition not to use this as an opportunity to defame the BJP and its leaders in Goa.
However, CM Sawant is known for making grand statements that briefly excite some gullible Goans, only for little to no action to follow. Let’s be honest”has he ever ensured that land-grabbers, murderers, rapists, or those responsible for fatal road accidents face permanent jail time in Goa?
I personally believe the state government will eventually release all those arrested in this scam on bail to protect the kingpin and some powerful ministers allegedly involved. This ongoing drama of arrests may continue for a while but will likely fizzle out, leaving things unchanged. The racket may simply continue under new faces, backed by influential politicians, because it’s big business. Whether Goans like it or not, the cycle seems destined to repeat.
