Stray dogs need care, not just feeding

SC MANDATES REMOVAL OF STRAY DOGS…… - The Goan Everyday - November 8, 2025. The Supreme Court directives with regard to stray canines, stray cattle and others must be welcomed and followed by all. Nobody is against stray dogs as such; in fact, dogs are known to be the most faithful animals God has given us. But what is important is that they need to be cared for. Just feeding them out of compassion is not enough.

It is in view of the rising and alarming incidents of dog bites that the Supreme Court has been prompted to issue such directives. Of course, it is the responsibility of both the authorities as well as those feeding the strays to ensure that people are kept safe from these animals.

Law and rules are there to control the stray dog menace, but they have been ignored by government authorities along with NGOs. There should not be only nominal action to curb the stray dog nuisance. Action should be earnest. I thank the Supreme Court for directing, on Friday (November 7, 2025), all government institutions, including hospitals, public sports complexes, bus stands, depots, and railway stations, to properly fence their premises to prevent the entry of stray…
