The death of a tool-making factory worker in Cuncolim industrial estate due to ammonia gas leakage in the adjoining Quality Foods fish processing unit is regrettable. Four other workers are said to have been affected due to inhalation of the gas. The gas leak was detected by the tool making factory workers who were sleeping in the factory premises. Later the Quality Foods technicians are said to have brought the situation under control. What is alarming is that this is not the first time that such an incident has happened in the estate. There were incidents earlier too. Therefore a proper inquiry should be held this time to see if the gas leakage happened due to negligence and appropriate action taken against the errant persons since an innocent, poor worker lost his life and more could have died.
