Apropos to the news item ‘Residents raise concerns over SOPs not being followed in Valpoi market’, in The Goan Everyday.
On the one hand, everyone seems to be clamouring for opening up the economy, permitting all businesses to function and wanting life to return to normal.
Now that the State government is moving in that direction, while permitting fish markets to open, we are faced with the prospect of the coronavirus spreading once again.
And why, because people are becoming complacent and throwing all basic Covid norms to the wind. And this is the situation not just in Goa but everywhere else in the country.
Moreover, the civic authorities are expected to take action against violators of SOPs. Why? Do we have to be policed all the time? The dangers of Covid do not seem to have reached the heads of the people as yet. People don't seem to understand what is good or bad for them.
Perhaps, it is only when they lose their own loved ones, they may come down to reality. By that time it may be too late. Let us not forget that Covid-19 is still very alive and waiting to strike!
In the meanwhile, it is hoped that good sense will prevail among the people.
