Time to de-escalate or await all-out war

With nuclear talks between Iran and the US now suspended, the world inches closer to the edge of conflict. While Israel had struck multiple sites and killed several senior Iranian military leaders and scientists, Tehran hit back, sending barrages of drones and missiles towards Israel’s urban centres.  As the conflict continues, there are dangers it may expand, if the US gets involved. Such a development would be devastating for the region, sending shockwaves across the globe. Billing himself as ‘man of peace’, Trump is supporting Israel’s aggression with financial help and arms to embark on a destructive adventure that can set the Middle East alight. As expected,  India has abstained again on a General Assembly resolution critical of Israel, suggesting efforts to find a solution based on dialogue and diplomacy.  The world must act urgently and decisively to rein in Israeli aggression. The alternative is a descent into all-out regional war that will not spare anyone, not even the self-assured powers stoking its flames.
