Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently said that his government is trying to wipe out the traces of Portuguese after 60 years of Goa's Liberation to start afresh and focus on rebuilding Goan culture.
Today, if Goans are still glorifying the Portuguese, that's because they were absolute rulers who treated this land like their very own and who never went on to sell/auction our vast hills, mountains, agricultural lands, ancestral properties etc.
The Portuguese brought cashews, mangoes, different spices etc to Goa. They introduced us to a global sport like football, taught us to listen to world music and enjoy their distinct cuisine in Goa. But above all, they taught us many good habits and to live like tolerant civilised human beings.
Today, if Goa has gone to become a famous tourist destination in the world then that's because they have left behind their rich legacy in the form of churches, chapels.
Our leaders should first improve the law & order problem, try to wipe out drugs, prostitution, casino, land auctioning, land grabbing and 'fottingponn' culture and then talk of wiping out all traces of Portuguese culture.
