Time to take note of robbery tourism!

Goa is one of the leading destinations where people come in hordes to enjoy the scenarios, beaches and greenery. Captialising on this, several types of tourisms have started and/or in the offing, such as spiritual, wellness, ecotourism, wildlife etc.

But the electronic dance and music (EDM) events are more (in)famous especially towards the last week of December. This is the time when people want to let down their hair and freak out by celebrating the year gone and looking forward to a better one.

The EDM events also attract robbers who get tempted and find easy preys to deprive them mostly of mobiles and other valuables. This leads to ‘robbery tourism’.

There are several cases where thieves have targetted tourists staying in resorts and hotels and specialists who break into houses and jewellery shops.

Some of these ‘white collar, suited-booted workers’ arrive and depart by flights to avoid suspicion and be in time for another crime elsewhere!

It is difficult to stop ‘robbery tourism’ though the police may be proactive and there could be presence of CCTVs and other measures in place.
