The recent fire tragedy at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, which claimed the lives of 25 people, including tourists and staff, is a stark reminder of the grave risks associated with poorly regulated nightlife operations.
Among the deceased were four tourists and fourteen staff members, while the identities of seven others are still being verified. Initial findings reveal that the nightclub lacked essential safety requirements such as proper parking facilities, functioning fire safety systems, and adequate emergency exits. Reports also suggest that the shack-like structure was built illegally on government-owned land and had been operating without valid permissions.
Although government guidelines clearly state that Goan weddings and club activities must conclude by 10 pm, many establishments continue playing loud music well into the night, causing serious disturbance to nearby residents and disregarding public safety norms.
