Vector-borne diseases: keep surroundings clean

Everyyear, newspapers cover news of areas hit by vector-borne diseases like dengue.This year, the State had to be on guard, both due to the Covid pandemic anddengue. Vector-borne diseases are considered the most serious, since they areunpredictable, let alone the fact that it is very difficult to prevent orcontrol. Many a time in spite of knowing the preventive measures, people ignorethese and pay the price. While they believe in keeping their homes clean, theyignore their surroundings. People must realise mosquitoes breed in discardedold tyres, coconut shells and in whatever things water stays stagnated. We mustrealise clean surroundings work better for our health too.

A fewdays back, it was announced that Goa is the first state in India to providetapped water to each and every house. This was achieved under the Centre’swell-intentioned scheme of ‘Har Ghar Jal.’ Since the time the announcement wasmade with much fanfare by the Central and State governments, there have beenbelievers and disbelievers.
