Veeru forever in our hearts

Dharmendra, in his illustrious six-decade-long career, acted in nearly 250 films, including Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Pratiggya, Satyakam, Seeta Aur Geeta and Dream Girl. Many of his roles have remained etched in the hearts of the audience. His iconic water-tank scene from Sholay is still used by political workers during protests, showing the lasting impact of his acting.

The duo of Jai and Veeru became especially famous, and scenes highlighting friendship or loyalty helped make Sholay a timeless favourite. Dharmendra, who played Veeru, was known by several titles in Bollywood, such as “He-Man” and “Superstar”. His memorable lines from Sholay continue to be recalled even today.

He also portrayed many versatile characters opposite actresses like Meena Kumari, Jaya Bachchan and Saira Banu, showing a different side of his on-screen image. A grounded and warm-hearted star, Dharmendra shone brightly through his remarkable performances.
