Translocated Banyan tree yet to show signs of life - The Goan Everyday - December 13, 2024. This incident of a nearly two-centuries old Banyan tree relocated for a so-called Smart City project is very sad and disturbing. A huge Banyan tree being removed from the place of it’s birth and transplanted elsewhere, with all its branches hacked, is something which could not be imagined.
According to the news report, the tree showed signs of life with some shoots springing up but have already withered and parts of the tree itself seem decaying. Whether this tree ultimately lives, only time will tell. But one thing is clear, as I may have mentioned in the past, you cannot play with Nature and get away with it. One cannot change the course of Nature.
