The Russian offensive against Ukraine entered the fourth day on Sunday and in a dramatic escalation of East-West tensions, Putin ordered Russian nuclear forces to be put on high alert in response to what he termed as 'aggressive intent' by NATO. What this actually means is that nuclear weapons are now just a button push away from launch and the West's response to it could boil over to an all engulfing nuclear warfare and a possible World War. The Russian president's ego has been massively pricked by hard hitting financial sanctions imposed on it by the NATO powers and worse, by strident opposition at home to his misadventure. If war continues it would lead to possibly the biggest humanitarian crisis in history worse than that witnessed in Syria, Yemen, Rwanda or Sudan. The Ukranian president has called for all citizens to defend their motherland but all of them would be reduced to cannon fodder if Russia actually launches a nuclear strike Let's hope and pray that better sense prevails and peace returns to conflict zones all across the world. The possibility of another Hiroshima is too frightening to comprehend.
