The Goa government has announced a Rs 5 lakh compensation for next of kin of the victims and Rs 50,000 for those injured. This is in addition to Central government announcing Rs 2 lakh and Rs 50,000 compensation. These amounts are insignificant and in a way are a tactic by the government to calm public anger. The other major flaw is why are these amounts paid from taxpayers/govt money. Should the amount not be recovered from the owners/promoters of this controversial Birch club? In a way compensation should also be extracted from the government officials from the GCZMA, Director of Panchayat, TCP, etc.
