The recent Zilla Panchayat elections have shown clear cracks in the Congress alliance in Goa. While Congress and Goa Forward remain together, the RGP has rejected Congress’ proposal and will contest on its own symbol, similar to AAP. This split benefits the BJP, whose strategy is to divide opposition votes and secure an easy win.
Many parties believe they can defeat the BJP, but the ruling party’s financial power and influence over voters make the contest difficult. The people of Goa must use their judgement and vote not for short-term benefits like money, food or alcohol, but for the long-term welfare of the state.
