Disallow multi-dwelling projects in Colva

ARWIN MESQUITA, Colva | MAY 28, 2025, 07:42 PM IST

An average 3 days of no supply or irregular PWD water supply is becoming a norm in Colva and it is outrageous that the Colva Panchayat is still issuing construction licenses for multi-dwelling residential units, medium, large hotels, residential/commercial constructions with pools without any concern about the worsening water supply issues in the village. When the panchs including the secretary are questioned on the same, they "conveniently" push the blame on to the other government departments including the TCP as a lame excuse. Under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, Section 80 (power of the Panchayat to make bye laws regarding provisions of water supply) the Colva (and other village panchayats as well) are well empowered to take appropriate action in the interest of the village. I encourage Colvenkars to start putting pressure (including the writing of letters, attending gram sabhas etc.) on the Panchayat to act in the interest the village (and posterity) and stop issuing construction licences to multi-dwelling residential units, medium-large hotels and residential/commercial constructions with pools.
