The allegations by journalist Richa Parashar that she was manhandled by Rahul Gandhi and his security personnel during the chaotic exit from the Supreme Court on October 12 raise questions that warrant closer scrutiny. Parashar has claimed that she was three months pregnant and suffered injuries to her neck, shoulder, knee and foot in the incident. However, a video circulating on news channels appears to show Rahul Gandhi making way for her, though the footage may not capture the entire incident. Before drawing conclusions, the complete video footage and other available evidence must be examined. If there are conflicting accounts, an impartial inquiry would help establish what actually happened. At the same time, allegations of political motives or claims that the incident was orchestrated should not be treated as established facts without evidence. Serious accusations deserve a fair and objective investigation, irrespective of the political personalities involved. In a democracy, journalism and political debate must be guided by facts rather than speculation or sensationalism. The truth should emerge through credible evidence, not political mudslinging.
