The curtain raiser to the 38th edition of the prestigious Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar festival organised by Kala Academy Goa will be on November 2. The three-day festival will be held on November 2, 3 and 4 with the participation of a galaxy of top rated vocalists and instrumentalists of India. The festival is rated amongst the top 10 music festival of India having glamour of its own and will be inaugurated by Govind Gaude, minister for Art and Culture and chairman of Kala Academy Goa on November 2 at 5.45 pm at Kala Academy, Panaji. All the concerts in the festival will be open to music lovers and general public.
Prior to the inaugural function a Symposium on the topic ‘Indian Classical Music And Its Aesthetics’ will be held between 10.30 am to 1.30 pm on November 2 at the Black Box in which speakers/experts of music namely Pt Dinkar Panshikar, Dr Vidhyadhar Vyas and Dr Ajay Pohankar will participate and present their views in the threadbare discussion session to be moderated by noted music critic Mukund Sangoram.
After the inaugural function, renowned vocalist Ustad Arshad Ali Khan will present classical vocal concert at 6 pm on the same day. The first day’s session will conclude with instrumental concert (santoor) by Pt Satish Vyas.
The second day (November 3) will begin at 10.30 am with classical vocal recital by local artist Veena Mopkar and at 11 am classical vocal concert by Dr Arun Dravid. The morning session will conclude with instrumental concert (harmonium solo) to be presented by Pt Vishwanth Kanhere. The afternoon session will begin at 4 pm with the classical vocal concert by Bharathi Prathap, followed by vocal concert (thumri) by Dhanashree Pandit Rai at 5.15 pm.Pt Arnab Chatterjee will present classical vocal concert at 6.30 pm. The session will conclude with instrumental concert (sitar) at 7.45 pm by Pt Kushal Das.
On the concluding day (November 4) Shobha Choudhary will present classical vocal concert at 10 am, followed by Anuradha Kuber’s classical vocal concert at 11.15 am. The Sarangi instrumental concert by Ustad Moinuddin Khan will begin at 12.30 noon. The concluding session of the festival will begin at 4 pm with vocal recital by local artist Sandesh Khedekar. Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan will present classical vocal concert at 5 pm followed by classical vocal concert by Pt Kedar Bodas at 6.30 pm The festival will conclude with the instrumental jugalbandi concert at 7.45 pm by renowned artist Pt Kumar Bose (tabla) and Vidwan Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam(Mridangam).
All the above artists will be provided with instrumental support by Renowned artists like Omkar Gulwady, Mohammad Akram Khan, Kalinath Mishra, Mukundraj Deo, Tulshidas Navelkar, Uday Kulkarni, Mayank Bedekar, Anish Kondurkar (Tabla) and Sudhanshu Kulkarni, Raya Korgaonkar, Chinmay Kolhatkar, Subhash Fatarpekar, Siddhesh Bicholkar, Dattaraj Surkejar & Prasad Gawas (Harmonium). V.L Kumar (Violin), Sarwar Hussain (Sarangi) and Vilas Palkar (Pakhawaj) will also provide instrumental support to the artists.
