Here's a chance to experience the best of Goan folk theatre. Abhivyaktee, a theatre group will be organising Lokrang, a festival of plays on June 2 and 3 based on the three major folk-theatre forms of Goa at the Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhli. This will feature 3 productions specially designed for the festival in three folk theatre styles of Goa namely Kaalo, Pernni Jagor & Rannmale. The project is being executed under the ‘Performing Arts Grant Scheme’ of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
‘Lok Rang’ will be inaugurated by Member of Legislative Assembly Dr. Pramod Sawant in the distinguished presence of Dr. Tara Bhawalkar - a senior scholar of theatre and folk arts, and Vinayak Khedekar a Goan folk research-scholar. The schedule of the plays is as follows “ Vedharana, based on Kalo on July 2 at 6.30 pm, Rupdyanchi Rupkatha, based on Perni Jagor on July 3 at 11 am and Sabala Ganaar, based on Ranmale at 6.30 pm.
All the three plays will be utilizing the benefits that the modern performing space offers like Lights, Sound & Set design while following most of the conventions of their forms. The group hopes to revive the taste of modern day spectators by exposing the participating performers and the audience alike to the strengths of Goa's old theatre traditions.
