Christmas is a time when everyone dusts off their trusty Jim Reeves, Boney M, or other favourite seasonal CDs and press play every morning. Some of us even transfer these songs to MP3s to preserve them for posterity. But through that maze of commercial music comes something that is a little closer to the spiritualism that Christmas embodies, that of joy, giving thanks and more.
Christ is Christmas is a homegrown product. Created, reworked and produced by Alfwold Silveira, Christ is Christmas is more than just a cd of Christmas songs, it’s a way to thank Christ and remind people that Christmas is not just about Santa Claus and gifts beneath the Christmas tree, it’s about faith. “Christmas is a festive time, a time of giving and gifting and so I felt this CD would make a lovely Christmas gift,” says Silveira. The arrangement of the music has been done by Alfin Fernandes and guitars by Grayston Vaz, both of A26. Some of the songs were written quite a few years ago but serious work started in August this year. Three traditional carols on the album received a modern touch and the original songs are spread across genres, because Christmas is a rainbow celebration. Christ is Christmas is available at select music stores. So this year, instead of saying ‘Merry Xmas,” gift someone this CD instead and put the Christ back in Christmas.
