Nick Carter , who had a troubled childhood and is estranged from his parents has credited the Backstreet Boys for saving him and giving him the family he never had. '' All the other guys had great families and great morals, and things that I could connect to and learn from, and really reflect with my own family. I was really able to learn from the guys,'' said the singer who joined the band at the age of 12. Speaking further about his troubled childhood he said that a lot of the problem centred around the issue of money and he was tortured for many years. “I realised that I couldn't save them or actually have that family. In a way though, I was saved by the guys and God gave me a new life,'' he said.
