Bird-watching at Carambolim lake

Carambolim or Karmali village is known for one of the most beautiful railway stations in the country, which is just a bit more than 10 kms from Panaji. What makes this station so special is the stunning lake which lies adjoining to Platform number two.

The marshy lake is also known as a favoured habitat for a wide variety of birds which flock to this water body by the droves. No surprise that the lake has become one of the most favoured haunts for bird lovers and avian photographers.

Some of the birds found at the Carambolim lake are open-billed storks, flocks of herons, egrets, pink flamengos, moorhens, bronze winged and pheasant-tailed jacans, red-rumped swallow, cotton pygmy-goose, lesser whistling teal, etc. Bird enthusiasts claim that such birds land up at the Carambolim lake seasonally, from the dry regions like the Rann of Kutch.

The lake itself has an extremely broad range of flora which includes water lilies, Indian marsh snowflakes, etc, which appear to do the best to attract birdlife. Don’t venture too far into the lake, because it is also known to be home to crocodiles.

Getting to Carambolim lake is easy, especially if you are in Panaji. It is located at a fifteen minute drive from Panaji.

In his screenplay, the dramatic conflict is between Tabu and Kat’s characters.” But the producers had a…
