Between the Lines, the reader's club at Gallery Gitanjali, Panaji will host a presentation and discussion on Ken Follett’s twin novels Eye of the Needle and The Key to Rebecca on July 22, 6 pm. Both novels are World-War-two espionage thrillers that follow a powerful Nazi-spy as he is hunted down by a British army intelligence officer. In fact it was while he was researching for Eye of the needle, that Follet stumbled upon the true story of Nazi spy Johannes Eppler and his involvement in Operation Salaam. And Eppler proved to be the inspiration for Alex Wolff, a character in The Key to Rebecca. Since the two books have a parallel plot, told from a different perspective and set in a different location in each case, they are best analysed together (Key to Rebecca is a re-write of Eye of the Needle) so as to highlight the changes in literary props and the difference in the voice of the narratives. The novels will be presented together by Dhruv Usgaonkar, Portuguese lecturer at Goa University, and will be followed by a discussion.
