Fifth Harmony singer Lauren Jauregui has become the latest celebrity to take a break from social media site Twitter. The singer made her decision after she faced backlash for her tweet about presidential candidate Jill Stein, with followes accusing her of taking votes away from Hillary Clinton in what could be a close election. Although she clarified that she was in favour of Clinton, the Twitter storm raged on whereupon she tweeted that she was going on a break and 'Y'all can have your fun and make whatever assumptions about my character you want'. Here's a look at some other celebrities who decided to step away from the Twitter negativity for awhile.
Stephen Amell
Arrow star Stephen Amell decided to take a break from social media following his controversial tweet about Ahmed Mohamed last year “Stereotyping Texas isn't any better than stereotyping Ahmed. Just so we're clear,” he wrote, referencing the state in which 14-year-old Mohamed was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school. Upset followers were quick to get back at him following which the star took to Facebook to clarify his statements before deciding to give Twitter a rest for awhile.
Azealia Banks
This controversial star is famous for causing a huge racket on Twitter with some insensitive statements against fellow celebrities like Rihanna', Iggy Azalea and Zayn Malik. And not many were upset after she decided to go on a social media hiatus a few months ago. The star had previously taken a social media hiatus in 2012 as well but she always returns.
Iggy Azalea
After paparazzi photos surfaced of the Aussie rapper in a bikini while on vacation in Hawaii, she received some rather unflattering comments on Twitter. An annoyed Azalea decided to take a break from social media for awhile stating that her management team would run her account, but not before adding, "The Internet is the ugliest reflection of [mankind] there is.”
Amanda Bynes
Before the former Nickelodeon star was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she publicly claimed that she was retiring from acting. Shortly after, she announced that she was unretiring from acting. She then deleted her account after her very public meltdown in which she attacked multiple celebrities on Twitter, including Sarah Hyland, Miley Cyrus and, most notably, Drake. Four months later she returned to Twitter to share snap with a male pal, much to the delight of 3.5 million followers.
Alec Baldwin
After the actor was booted off a plane for playing Words with Friends, he took to Twitter to pash the airlines. He then went on to shut the door on Twitter for awhile but returned after a month to give the platform another try and fans could not be happies as he consistently tweets his opinions on politics and life with little regard to who he might be offending.
Kanye West
His famous for his very public rants on Twitter that often causes a huge stir among his followers and felloe celebrities. But believe it or not, the rapper actually did quit Twitter once upon a time in in 2012. Rather than delete his account, the star just deleted all his tweetd leaving ebhind only the words, "BE BACK SOON. And return he did.
