Celebrating 27 years of ‘Festival of plants and flowers’


TheGreen Heritage Eco- Club of St Francis Xavier’s School, Siolim is organising its “27th Annual Festival of Plants and flowers” on August 18, 19 and 20 in the school campus. The theme this year is “Jack of all Treats” which will focus on Jackfruit and its variants like soursop, breadfruit etc. There will be an exhibition of plants of various categories, display of art and craft, traditional pottery and traditional Goan artifacts. Around 25 schools will be participating in various competitions such as biodiversity of jackfruits, patravali making, food thali on patravali, fruitsalad making, “fruits for health” drawing competition. As a side attraction there will also be an exhibition of caricatures of great Goan tiatrists by popular cartoonist Alexyz who is also one of the founders of the festival. This apart he will also be conducting a free caricature fun- shop for the students and art enthusiasts on Aug 18 at 3.30 -5.30 pm.

The festival will be inaugurated by the director of agriculture Nelson Figueredo on August 18, 11.30 AM. The book ‘Celebrating Joel Dsouza’ an eminent photo journalist, who is also the late founder of the festival will be released.  

 On Sunday August 19, there will be a farmer’s workshop to learn the art of jackfruit processing at 10 am. Leading nurseries will conduct sale of exotic plants and garden inputs on all three days.
