Nestled in the beautiful Benaulim, the Goa Chitra Museum has over the years evolved as a charming location that is a must visit- not just for tourists but also for the locals, as it tells the tale of a Goa from the days of yore.
In celebration of it's success, the constantly evolving museum which is commemorating it's seventh year of operation today is all set to organise an international celebrity concert on November 3 which will feature the renowned soprano Patricia Rosario live in concert together with the acclaimed pianist Mark Troop, and Spain’s leading clarinetist, Joan-Enric Lluna at the Goa Chakra Museum.
“Time has passed on so quickly that we have not realised that 7 years have passed. The thing is that the museum has grown against all odds bringing us closer to our objective of saving the past for posterity. We are heading in the dirrection to ensure that Goa Chitra will go beyond the scope of a museum and become a laboratory of learning and research that will keep the heritage of Goa alive forever. For us success does not mean fame but carrying on this journey to its logical end,” says Victor Hugo Menezes, the man behind the museum, adding that finanicial sustenance has been a huge problem but the museum has progressed due to support from media, the art community, international universities and musicians. In fact the upcoming concert is part of the plan to raise funds for Goa Chitra.
“ We will be performing together with our favorite Spanish clarinet Joan Enric Lluna. We have done plenty of performances together and it has been one of our most successful as the combination of clarinet and voice makes it all excuting. The pieces may not be familiar but they will be very entertaining . Apart from this there will be a few soulful pieces and a couple of religious and opera tunes too. So there is something for everyone,” says pianist Mark Troop, who together with Patricia Rosario has been very involved in the Goan music scenes and is a a lecturer in music at the Goa University. Troop who also runs five festival events “ Rare Classical Music, Inspired By China, Tango Passion, German cabaret and New Classical Music. And he and Rosario are hoping to start an annual festival here in Goa as well. Their upcoming concert is also a chance for them to test the waters. Speaking about Goa Chitra, he states that what is particularly important about Gomes is that he is very forward thinking and is not just preserving tradition and keeping history aline but using the space well to promote other arts. “ We always have a good time performing here in Goa as the audience is very enthusiastic and we hope that it continues this way,” says Rosario
