Giving back to the society

Mining firm Vedanta recently joined hands with the Village Panchayat Navelim, Village Panchayat Sanquelim and Mineral Foundation of Goa, Pratap Nagar to organised a series of cleanliness and road safety initiatives to mark Gandhi Jayanti. The daylong celebrations witnessed active participation from Vedanta employee volunteers, students of Sesa Technical School,  Mineral Foundation of Goa, and villagers of Sanquelim Navelim in a series of activities such as - Swacchata Awareness Rally, cleanliness drives, plastic waste collection, installation of safety convex mirrors and road signage at Navelim village and more. The aim of the drive was to educate people about the importance of road safety and benefits of cleanliness.   

Swacchata Awareness Rally started from Paular junction at Navelimand ended at Vedanta’s Metcoke division gate. Villagers, students and Vedanta employees enthusiastically participated in the rally and various other activities. On the occasion, Sauvick Mazumdar, CEO, Sesa Goa Iron Ore said, “Vedanta has always encouraged the philosophy of environment-safety and has been leading many such initiatives in the same lines. We care for the communities around the regions we operate in and believe in making these communities aware about various best practices to lead safer and better life.”

Further on, NL Vhatte, director, Vedanta, VAB said, “We, at Vedanta, strongly emphasise on the safety of all our stakeholders. As a responsible corporate organisation, we contribute towards the safety and environment of our community to the greatest extent possible. Let us pledge to take the responsibility of not only practising safe behaviour but also spreading awareness in the communities around us about the importance of safety and environment”.

Mayuri Mahadev Gawas- Sarpanch, Navelim Village Panchayat added, “I express my sincere gratitude towards Vedanta’s employee volunteers, management and all my villagers, who jointly conceptualized and executed these unique initiatives on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which will benefit the community at large in a long run”.
