When you have rivers aplenty, you need bridges to cross them. Without a doubt, in the long list of Goa’s stunning vistas, bridges and the sights you see from them are one of them.
Take for example the Corjuem bridge, one of the first suspension bridges in the state which was built in 2004. The bridge stretches across the river Mapusa and overlooks a stretch of mangroves and calm flowing river water. The beauty of this setting, even inspired the state administration to host a party in honour of the celebrities and guests who were in attendance at the first edition of the International Film Festival of India in Goa which was held in 2004 at the same bridge on a balmy November evening.
The Colvale bridge across the Chapora river and the Ozarim bridge in Pernem are also similar to the Corjuem bridge as far as the magnificent views that they command. The bridges provide for excellent photography opportunities during sun up or sun down, if you are a photography buff. Avid anglers also use the bridge to indulge in the past-time of fishing, which is commonplace among villagers who live along the banks of the rivers.
Some of the other bridges you could visit for leisure are the Ribandar Patto, which is one of the oldest such stone bridges in Asia, the small but ancient, stone bridge in Patto Panaji and the bridge across the small, but picturesque Nerul river near Candolim.
Zoccer
Have you heard of zoccer? No, we haven’t misspelt soccer. We are talking about zoccer. It’s one of the newest fun adventure sports and is catching up ever since it was invented in Holland a few years back.
As the name may suggest zoccer is part soccer and part zorbing. While soccer is a game which needs no introduction, zorbing on the other hand involves walking in a transparent inflatable ball on water.
Zoccer is new and it has taken the sport of soccer, which can potentially lead to injuries and scrapes, especially when those non accustomed to the sport try it out, and blended it with the fun vibe of zorbing.
It is now being sought after as a routine for bonding among friends as well as motivation for corporate manpower. And there are a couple of places where you can try your hand at zorbing and zoccer, especially if you are travelling to Goa with a group of friends or colleagues.
Milsim at Nuvem is one of the places, which offers zoccer along with a wide range of other adventure and sporting activity. The Grand Hyatt in North Goa too offers both zorbing and zoccer opportunities.
