Honouring the talented stars of Goan theatre

Kala Academy Goa celebrates Gomant Rangabhoomi Din on July 11 every year to mark the birth anniversary celebration of Late Krishnambhatt Bandkar, Goan saint poet and playwright. The function will be held on Thursday, July 11 at 5 pm at the Dinanath Mangeshkar, Kala Mandir,  Kala Academy Complex, Panaji. 

Vandana Gupte, well known theatre personality and renowned actress will be the chief guest whereas Govind Gaude, minister for art and culture and chairman of Kala Academy will preside over the function.    

On this occasion, Krishnambhatt Bandkar Puraskar awards of Gomant Rangbhoomi Din for the year 2019-20 and Rangsanman Puraskar awards of World Theatre Day for the year 2018-19 will be presented to Goan theatre personalities who have rendered their yeomen contribution to Goan theatre stage and they will be felicitated on this occasion with the mementos, citation, shawl and the award amount. Krishnambhatt Bandkar Puraskar carries an amount of Rs 15,000 each whereas Rangsanman Puraskar carries an amount of Rs 20,000 each.

The recipients of Krishnambhat Bandkar Puraskar for the year 2019-20 includes Datta Naguesh Naik(acting), Shambhu Bhiku Naik(acting), Lala Surya Chari (acting), Murari Mhamal alias Tato Padji (make-up/music), Mamta Ashok Nhavelkar(acting) and Subhash Babu Parob Yelekar(direction).

The recipients of Rangsanman Puraskar for the year 2018-19 includes Abhay Anant Jog (direction), Leena Pednekar(acting), Anand Pralhad Masur (direction), Vinay Gaunekar (acting), Keshav alias Rajoo Meghashyam Naik (direction/acting) and Kiran Somnath Naik (stage setting). The selection committee comprising of theatre personalities namely Deepak Amonkar, Satish Gawas and Girish Velguekar selected the personalities for the respective awards. The committee was chaired by Govind Gaude, chairman of Kala Academy Goa.

The felicitation function will be followed by release of CD of Natyageets  “Sangeet Ahallyoddhar” “ musical play written by Late Krishnambhatt Bandkar. It is now the established fact that Late  Krishnambhatt Bandkar was the originator of musical plays of Marathi stage. 

During Portuguese regime Krishnambhatt Bandkar had written 4 marathi musical plays namely ‘Shukrarambha Sanvad’, ‘Lopamudra Sanvad’, ‘Natsubhadra Vilas’ and ‘Sangeet Ahallyoddhar’.  Kala Academy Goa decided to have documentation of these Natyageet’s from these plays in the CD format for the archival purpose. The CD of these Natyageets will be released on the Gomant Rangbhoomi Din. The Natyageet’s have been sung by renowned singers namely  Raghunandan Panshikar, Pralhad Hadfadkar, Kalyani Salunke & Sumedha Desai. Instrumental accompaniment is given by Pt Vishwanath Kanhere(organ) and Dhananjay Puranik (tabla).

The release of the CD will be followed by Natyasangeet programme of the Natyageet’s from play Sangeet Ahallyoddhar wherein all the above named artists who have contributed as vocalists, accompanists in the CD will give a live performance .

The programme is open to all. Kala Academy has appealed all the music, theatre and Natyasangeet lovers to witness the programme in large number.
