Mutual admiration society
My friend’s girlfriend loves shopping and insists on taking me along with her because my friend hates shopping. I enjoy it because I get to see the latest fashions. But lately, I think I have developed some feelings for my friend’s girlfriend. I don’t know what to do. Please help.

Oooh. You’re on dangerous territory, my favourite kind. First of all, the fact that your friend would be comfortable with another guy accompanying his girlfriend on regular shopping trips probably means that he has a lot of faith in you. So I would assume you guys are very close. You don’t mess with a friendship like that. Second, this is not a mutual attraction. It’s probably just the fact that you are hanging out with her a lot and, considering you two are shopping, there is a lot of mutual interest. Third, I assume you are single, since no girl I know would be so comfortable with her boyfriend going shopping with another girl. If that’s the case, and you are single, what you’re feeling could be normal. You need to take a step back for a bit. If you back off completely, someone will start to wonder what is up. What I would recommend you do is encourage your friend to go out with her once in a while, or even suggest to him that he should come along to give YOU company. This way you don’t have to spend time alone with her, and that might wean you off her. I would also suggest that you get your fashion kicks by yourself. If you don’t like to visit stores alone, I could recommend a few apps. My wife says I’m an expert online shopper. You should have seen my Christmas shopping. I didn’t step into even one store. Oh and, get a girlfriend, will you?

Not so tech savvy
My girlfriend keeps on forgetting stuff, especially when it comes to technology. She has an old phone with a bad battery and doesn’t want to buy a new one. I bought her a power bank because her phone kept on dying off and she wouldn’t charge it often. But now she forgets to charge the power bank too. Help!
Ash
So I’m not the only one with this very similar problem. And here I thought I was alone in the world. Ash, my friend, welcome to our world, join the club, take a seat and pour yourself a chilled one. I have attempted to find a solution to this very problem for two years now. This does not end at the phone and power bank, but at the laptop and other tech too! (Yes, we are a fully functioning tech family, although our tech isn’t always fully functioning). I even picked up a second power bank to offset the first. Nothing helped. My advice is, leave it be. We cannot expect anyone, even our better halves, to be like us. Everyone is made different, so if they don’t charge in time and can live with it, why do we have to worry. That’s just the way they are. Perhaps they look at US and wonder what we are doing charging our phones thrice a day and ensuring that we always have our batteries charged. Maybe WE are the weird ones, ever thought of that?

A very bad year
This year 2016 has not been good. It has taken away so many of my idols, from Prince and George Michael to Carrie Fisher. Why has it been this bad?
Sonal
I completely understand where you’re coming from Sonal. What’s worse is that a few fools, whose names I am not going to mention in print, are still alive and kicking (sadly!). 2016 has not been a good year by any standards, but you know what, it’s not going to get any better, to be honest. All our idols, especially those of us who have grown up in the 70s and 80s, will soon start to pass away. Most of them are in their early to late 60s and they will mostly have some problem or the others. It’s a fact we have to deal with. Forget that, if you’re like me, in my early 40s, then you will also have to come to terms with the fact that elder relatives will start to pass on, and soon even our friends and old school mates will too. It’s the circle of life. Just make the most of every day.
