For those in south Goa, Margao’s Gomant Vidya Niketan, hosts an interesting English play ‘Is God a Taoist?’ today evening at 7 pm.
According to the theatre troupe enacting the play, it is actually a metaphysical dialogue about free will, morality of sins, evil and notions which conflict humans and society, between two central characters, one of whom is God and the other, a mortal.
The whole play is performed by nine young actors and is centred around Taoism, an ancient Chinese doctrine of philosophy.
The play is authored by Raymond Merrill Smullyan, a famous American mathematician, concert pianist, logician, Taoist philosopher and a magician. Smullyan started out as a stage magician but over the years he went on to write several books about Taoist philosophy, which he believes neatly solves most or all traditional philosophical problems as well as integrating mathematics, logic, and philosophy into a cohesive whole.
The play is being directed by Vidyanidhee Vanarase and is put together by the Hauns Sangeet Natya Mandal and will be screened at the prize distribution function of the Marathi drama competition at the Gomant Vidya Niketan. Hauns Sangeet Natya Mandal also plans to stage it in other venues in Goa and outside the state too.
