Indo Portuguese Friendship Society Goa was formed in Panjim Goa. With support of Fundação Cidade de Lisboa to promote understanding of Portuguese Culture, Language between the Indian Population, particularly Goa, Portugal and other Portuguese speaking countries.
Since 1997, they have conducted Portuguese classes at Margao and Panjim. Portuguese conversation classes, were also successfully conducted at these two locations. Special classes were also conducted for school students in Panjim.
Recently new elections were conducted at their Altinho office were Ana Rita Chico and her team were unanimously elected for the year 2019- 2021. Ana Rita Chico is the first Lady President and associated with Indo Portuguese Friendship Society since 1993. The body’s immediate past President Gopal Vernekar was also present on the occasion.
The Indo Portuguese Friendship Society Goa recently have reviewed a book titled ‘Colonial Panajim, its governance, its people’ authored by former Director of Education and historian Dr Celsa Pinto. Also the book titled ‘Goa Gold, Goa Silver Her History, Her Heritage From Earliest TImes to 2019’ was reviewed by historian professor Prajal Sakhardande. The new committee members are : Rene Mendes(Sr VP), Ana Rita Chico (President), Audhut Caro (Chairman General Assembly), Carmo Gracias (VP), Orty Soares (VP), Dr Anand Colaco (Member), Atul Naik (Treasurer),Francisco Martins(Member), Nenette Fernandez(Secretary of General Assembly), Dr Ulhas Karpe(Member) Ethel B daCosta (VP), Tolentino A Colaco (Secretary), Ameet Pinto (Member), Elmano Dias (Jt. Secretary). The new committee of Indo Portuguese Friendship Society Goa plans to have more interactions with Goan authors and further promote Indo Portuguese Culture.
