Based on the true story of chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, the Mira Nair directed film Queen of Katwe follows how Mutesi, a young girl from the Ugandan slum of Katwe came to meet Robert Katende who ran the Sports Outreach Program and trained children to play chess. Mutesi soon developed an interest in the game and showed immense potential that Katende took her under his wing and trained her. Mutesi went on to become a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads. The film stars David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong'o and Madina Nalwanga.
