Theatre lovers have a bonanza waiting for them today. The grand Dinanath Mangeshkar auditorium at the Kala Academy as well as it’s classy open air auditorium will be the venues to check into today evening, for the unveiling of the fifth edition of the Sadir Theatre Festival, which promotes plays and theatre. It will be held from March 18 to March 20.
The first play which will be performed as part of the festival is the well acclaimed ‘Wedding Album’, which is written by the legendary artiste Girish Karnad and directed by Lillete Dubey. The play, which has received rave reviews explores the whole aspect of marriage, in the context of the urban family at a wedding and politics involved in the experience.
The other back to back plays are ‘Hamlet and the Clown Prince’ and ‘Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada’. The plays will be performed at an interval of half-an-hour interval between them.
The final play of the fifth edition of Sadir theatre festival will be ‘Black With Equal’ which deals with the lives of people homed in a housing society and resolution of issues in their lives as they crop up. This play, according to the organizers of the festival, is against the backdrop of intolerance, which is one of the more debated issues in the country.
Tickets range from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1000 and can be booked at the Kala Academy.
