There appears to be a veritable explosion of artistic talent in Goa. And women are at the forefront of it, it seems. After the state hosted an exhibition of paintings by over a dozen women artists here in Goa, Carpe Diem, a art gallery and creative space in Majorda, located 25 kms from the state capital is hosting another interesting exhibition, in which the main body of work are sculptures put up by acclaimed women artists.
On display at the exhibition are exquisite glass mosaic lamps and ceramic works using stoneware clay by Nandini Dutta, figurative works in terracotta by Verodina D'Souza and ceramic works by Anjali Aney, all stellar exponents of their art.
Nandini Dutta has learnt ceramic classes at the Sanskriti Anandgram in Delhi, where she managed to learn the craft of mould-making by hand. She has also studied at the National School of Glass in Orrefors, Sweden and spent more time learning the craft at Designskole in Copenhagen.
Verodina’s alma mater is the Teachers Training Center in Mumbai, where she had enrolled after studying at the Goa College of Art. She has graduated in her profession from a potter to a sculptor.
