In a time when marriages especially in the film world sometimes don't even last more than a couple of months, when couples seem to prefer divorcing to sorting out their problems, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are among the few couples who have stood the test of time and proved that true love does exist.
Coming from different religious backgrounds, Shah Rukh Khan is said to have met Gauri at a birthday party when he was around 18 years old. After working up the courage to ask her for a dance, Shah Rukh was turned down as Gauri told him that she was waiting for her boyfriend. This however was a lie as it was her brother who showed up a little later. However, Shah Rukh was hooked and began to pursue her soon after and it wasn't long before she was charmed by him. Religion, though did prove to be a big hindrance in getting the parents to accept their union at first. Apart from this Gauri's dad is also said to have thought Shah Rukh too young and immature to take such a big step. After much convincing Shah Rukh was finally able to secure the blessings of her parents and the couple tied the knot on October 25, 1991.
“I haven’t had much time to spend with her over the years, because of my schedule, so the freshness of my marriage is still quite intact. We’ve never thought the same-about films, about life-and we’ve never tried to change that about each other. The only thing we are completely aligned in thought about are the kids,” the actor recently stated. And although being married to a film actor who often has to romance other beautiful actresses onscreen, Shah Rukh also stated that despite stories that have done the rounds, none of that has affected them as a couple, who are parents of three children today. “We are both really easy, and we’ve never encroached upon the other’s space. I’m a moviestar, I’ve been working for 20 years. I work with the most beautiful women in the world. Whether I think of it like that or not, there are enough stories to go around…that I sleep around with foreigners, with men, with my co-actresses. But it has never affected us because I guess she knows I don’t have the time to do anything but work,” he said.
With Diwali just around the corner, the wedding anniversary celebratiuons is expected to be extra special this time.
"The couple hosts a Diwali bash every year. So, this year, everyone is expecting it to be a double celebration. The guest list will include people from their inner circle. Gauri is known to be a great host, so there’s no doubt that she will be pulling out all stops to ensure that this will be an evening to remember," a source was quoted as saying.
