Birla Goa is all set to bring to you Spree ’16, a sports carnival like no other; a celebration of sport and an opportunity for the fastest, strongest and the most skilled athletes from across the country to challenge their limits and emerge victorious. With a host of events, some regular, some off-beat, Spree 2016 can be expected to cater to every athlete.
The regular events are further divided into gold and silver. Major gold events include cricket, football and basketball. Cricket matches will be held on a BCCI maintained ground that has hosted several national level tournaments such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while the football matches are played on a top class field maintained by the Salgaocar FC. Add to those two excellent courts that see intensely fought matches every year during Spree, and we have a number of much-awaited gold event matches. The Silver events include badminton, chess, carom, squash, table tennis and lawn tennis.
In keeping with the ever-changing nature of sport, Spree 2016 too has evolved and taken steps to go beyond the usual definitions of sport. As a result, Spree now boasts of a wide range of off-beat events such as 3v3 volley ball, ultimate frisbee, pool, gully cricket, kabaddi and futsal. Spree aims to take these off-beat events to the national stage as well.
With top-class facilities and a habit of attracting the best sporting talent in India, Spree does indeed keep to it's motto - we are Where Winners Tread. Add that to the fact that it is based in Goa, one of the major sporting hubs in India, and its reach and growth as a sports festival is simply unparalleled within the nation.
And when the participants are done grunting it out in the fields, Spree 2016 has a plethora of events, activities and performances for them to chill out to. Like one of India's biggest musical and Bollywood names. Indian singer, composer and record producer from Assam Angaraag Mahanta, popularly known by his nickname Papon, will be the headlining act at Spree 2016. Mahanta is the lead singer and founder of the folk-fusion band called Papon and The East India Company and his featured are in Bollywood movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hamari Adhuri Kahaani (Humnava), Madras Cafe (Sun le re and Khudse), (Kyon), (title song), (Jiyein kyun) etc.
Besides this, there will be shows and workshops by premier skateboarding groups, freestyle footballers and some of India's cricketing giants like Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel and Amit Mishra.
Spree 2016 will undoubtedly be one of the biggest college events this March.
