On September 13, 1996 the world lost a poet and a rap icon. Tupac Shakur was gunned down in cold blood in Las Vegas. His story goes back to his childhood and his teens, as he rose to be a good actor but more than that, one of the best rappers this world has ever seen. Even now, people speak his name with reverence, and rap to his songs with passion.
Tupac Afeni Shakur was born to the streets but there was a lot of the streets in him. All Eyez on Me now tells that story with a stellar cast, including an actor who looks so much like Tupac, he could be him reborn. The young Shakur, with stars in his eyes, tries to balance the pressures of fame, avoid becoming a ‘thug’ and yet be a part of a hip-hop culture that was also based on violence and rebellion. When Tupac was a star, there was a war between the east coast and west coast rappers, with the police who saw every black man as a drug dealer and with his own self, as he fought to be true to his beliefs.
