The 49th International Film Festival of India unfolds on November 20 in Goa. With 217 films from around the world, it’s the biggest, widest collection of world-class cinema that film buffs can savour. This year, it’s more inclusive and much more diverse than it has ever been. The International Film Festival of India has many firsts.
The official App of IFFI 2018 that has been launched at Entertainment Society of Goa was developed by the founder of Haztech, Mohsin Shaikh and will be available for download on Google Play for android phones.
The purpose of the app is to assist the delegates about the happenings of the festival and will provide delegates with information regarding the Venues, committee details, becoming a sponsor at the event, getting connected to all social media platforms, help desk etc.
The app will let users stay connected with all the IFFI events and also allow delegates to get to book tickets directly from the App. The biggest feature of the app is that if one cannot be present at IFFI venues, the app provides the feature of watching the major events live on the app.
‘Special focus’ on Jharkhand
Films such as Begum Jaan, MS Dhoni The Untold Story, Ranchi Diary, A Death in the Gunj, Mor Gao Mor Desh, Ajab Singh ki Gajab Kahani, and Panchlet will be screened as a part of the Special Focus segment in IFFI.
Films that may have been shot in Jharkhand under the Jharkhand Government Film Promotion Programme or made in the language/dialect of the state will be shown along with a cultural troupe of Jharkhand to showcase their cultural legacy.
IFFI will host stalls set up to promote the film promotion policy of the state, promote/sell the handicrafts of the state, and showcase the cuisines through food stalls from the State. Jharkhand Day will be celebrated on 24th November 2018, as a part of the State Focus celebrations.
Round Table Business Conference
In accordance with its end motive of developing the art of cinema in the country, IFFI 2018 is hosting an In-Conversation session with some critically acclaimed and celebrated filmmakers from India and the United States of America. The session titled, ‘Round Table Business Conference’ is a producers’ pitch that aims to bring distinguished producers from India and United States to share their views on film production.
This list consists of filmmakers, artistes and professionals who have been instrumental behind the scenes of films that have earned both critical and commercial acclaim.
The major points of discussion at the Round Table Business Conference will be: what do they look for in a script and how to select an ideal director for that script, the challenges faced in production of a film as producers are risk-takers who catch an idea, run with it and convince others to follow the idea, the way ahead for production scenarios in film industries in other countries and the possibilities of collaborations with India in future. The panelists at the session are John Hart, William Fay, Bobby Deolone, Christopher Tillman, Bianca Goodloe, Rockline Venkatesh, Allu Arvind and Kalaipuli S Thanu.
Films from 68 countries, Oscar entries
With a vast selection of movies from over 68 countries, the audience will be reeling under the cinematic magic of the best filmmakers. IFFI will showcase critically acclaimed movies including: The Wild Pear Tree by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Climax by Gaspar Noe, Ash is the purest white by Zia Zhangke, Shoplifters, the 2018 Palme d’Or winning film by Hirokazu Koreeda.
The 2018 edition will have the highest number of Oscar nominated films with 16 selected entries curated across the various sections of the festival. Get straight into the 1970s drug trade in Columbia with the award winning Birds of Passage or dive into the austere times of the 1950s Cold War in Poland where a love story is brewing.
