The growing bonhomie between Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane and Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu was on full display at a health camp during the weekend. Consider this. A year ago, the Jr Rane had termed Diggu as Goa’s “Vikas Purush” for ushering development across the State. The weekend saw the Health Minister confessing that Diggu has been his mentor and guide and a fatherly figure, giving him a big push in politics. He did not stop there. Vishwajitbab gave all credit to Diggu for not only giving sanction for the host of PHCs and hospitals across the State, but loaded them with equipment and manpower. Diggu did not lag behind either, reminding that Sr Rane had treated him as his son. A perfect bonhomie, isn’t it?
Public apology from Vishwajit to Kamat raises eyebrows in Margao
Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane went public during the weekend, by profusely apologising to Margao MLA Diggu for having meted out harassment when the later was the Congress Chief Minister between 2007-12. Those attending the health camp in particular and Madgavkars in general tried to figure out what sort of harassment did the Jr Rane meted out to Diggu prompting him to offer his apologies a decade and half later. That’s not all. Questions did the rounds how come the Health Minister went public with his apology when he could have very well apologised personally to Diggu. Any questions?
South Goa MP backs taxi operators, distances self from ‘Uzo’ chants
Tourist taxi operators appeared very much impressed with the support extended by South Goa MP Viriatbab Fernandes to their cause, so much so that one of the operators thundered “Uzo” – a call to intensify the ongoing agitation to protect the local taxi operators. Aware that Uzo is synonymous with the Revolutionary Goans Party, a cautious Viriatbab advised the operators not to talk about Uzo, apparently concerned that a wrong message may go out to the people on Uzo. Interesting, isn’t it?
Cong inductions raise concerns amid leadership uncertainty
Even as the exercise of induction of leaders into the party has become a talking point in political circles, many in the party have begun to wonder about the fate of the new comers in the event those welcoming the faces are no more in command of the ship. In fact, a senior leader remarked that those making a beeline to join the Congress, with an eye on the party tickets in the 2027 polls, are doing so at their own risk. Reason: He was blunt in asking what if leaders admitting the new faces are not around in the run up to the 2027 elections. You know why.
Talks of ‘Godgoddo’ gambling comeback stirs buzz in Margao
Is Godgoddo gambling set to make a comeback at the Margao Municipal owned iconic Tinto at the Old Market, is a question doing the rounds in city circles over the last few days. Godgoddo gambling had come to a stop at the Tinto months back following public outcry that a public place is being used for gambling activity. Sources, however, now say an attempt is being made in certain quarters to organise the gambling activity again. Wait and watch.
