RGP returns with a bang, Oppn treads cautiously

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 03, 2025, 12:38 AM IST

After lying low for some time, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has retuned back with a big bang, registering a success in its agitation against real estate development. The success, political observers say, is expected to re-charge party workers at the grassroots. The emerging development, however, has left the opposition wary. Leaders of Opposition parties seemed to have reacted with the emerging development with caution. You know why. Wait and watch.

Savio’s new role as Margao convenor raises eyebrows

The Congress leadership has finally given former Margao civic chief Saviobab Coutinho prominence in the party scheme of things. There’s, however, a big catch – why has the Congress leadership appointed Saviobab as the Margao convenor when most of the blocks in Goa have a block president in place. This has only thrown up a question or two in political circles whether the Congress has someone else in mind to take over the reins of the Margao block. Wait and watch.

CTP Naik’s suspension revives memories of 2011 Balli episode

Suspension of Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik by the government has brought back memories of the suspension of former South Goa district Collector, G P Naik. Over a decade ago, G P Naik was placed under suspension by the Digambar Kamat led-Congress government in the wake of the UTAA agitation at Balli in 2011 resulting in the death of two tribal youngsters. Convinced that G P Naik was made a scapegoat by the government over the unprecedented agitation, officials in the know recalled that a delegation of government officers had called on then Chief Minister with a plea to reconsider and revoke the suspension order, but in vain. Any questions?

Curtorim turns into health hub as political rivals roll out camps

Health is wealth, so goes the age old saying. Welcome to Curtorim represented by Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco, a supporting partner of the BJP-led government. Here, politicians seem to be in a big rush to take health at the people’s doorsteps. If AAP leader Roquebab Mascarenhas organised a host of medical camps in the constituency, MLA Reginaldbab did not lag behind. He not only roped in Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane to inaugurate his health camp, but got top doctors from GMC and health services to attend to the people. Wait and watch as AAP leader Roquebab has retuned back again with another camp.

Cavelossim sarpanch’s devpt drive sparks speculation ahead of 2027

What’s Cavelossim sarpanch Dixonbab’s political agenda, is a question asked in political circles with less than two years to go for the 2027 Assembly polls. Reason: After crossing swords against incumbent Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzybab Viegas, Dixonbab seemed working to a plan. Harping on a developmental mantra, Dixonbab has launched development projects, even though some of his works have come under the scanner of his opponents. Is the Cavelossim sarpanch going about his work systematically so that he showcases his development across Benaulim ahead of 2027? Wait and watch.
