Guess the reaction of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggubab over Chirag Naik’s entry into the Congress fold earlier this week. Well, the astute and seasoned former chief minister sought to downplay Chirag’s decision to embrace the Congress. In fact, Diggu has reacted to the development by saying democracy gives the right to every citizen to contest an election. Sources in political circles, however, informed that Diggu’s close aides have been trying to figure out the prominent citizens, who made it to Chirag’s induction into the Congress. Wait and watch.
Chirag's entry becomes talking
point in Cong circles
Young city-businessman Chirag Naik made a grand entry into the Congress earlier this week, but his induction has become a talking point in Congress circles, but for a different reason. For, some of the local leaders, including South Goa MP Viriatbab Fernandes and district president Saviobab D’Silva were conspicuous by their absence. Sources said Viriatbab was very much present in Margao attending to visitors in the district Collectorate, when Chirag’s induction was taking place at Hotel Nanutel. He made his presence at the hotel only after the induction ended and is believed to have registered his resentment for not taking local leaders in the loop over Chirag’s induction. Any questions?
No clarity on who paved way
for Chirag's entry into Cong
Who’s the architect in the Congress party, who paved way for Chirag Naik’s entry into the Congress fold, is a question doing the rounds in Saxtti political circles. Is it the Amit Patkar-Yuri Alemao duo or ex-GPCC Chief Girishbab Chodankar, who enjoys close rapport with Chirag’s father Dattabab Naik? Or, is it just a coincidence that Chirag was acceptable to both the Amit-Yuri and the Girishbab camps before the High command blessed his entry into the party old. Questions indeed remain unanswered?
Patkar, Yuri bent on organising
Statehood Day celebrations
All eyes are focussed on GPCC Chief Amitbab Patkar and Leader of Opposition Yuribab Alemao as the duo have decided to lead from the front in organising Statehood Day celebrations on May 30. Not only did the duo take the flight to Bengalaru earlier this week to invite Congress president M Kharge for the meeting, they are believed to have personally taken the responsibility of mobilizing party rank and file for the celebrations. The heavy pre-monsoon showers and the weather forecast seemed to have not deterred the duo from going ahead with the mega event. Wait and watch.
Disaster management authority will
need to procure breakers, gas cutters
When a slab of the Old Bank of Baroda building came crashing down earlier this week, the fire brigade was looking out for a contractor to supply a breaker and gas cutter to clear the debris. With a slab of another building collapsing within 24 hours, an official remarked that it’s time the disaster management authority goes for procurement of breakers and gas cutters with a host dilapidated and dangerous buildings dotting the commercial capital. Indeed time for introspection.
