The Konkani tiatr stage has lost a beloved and respected artiste, Jose Joaquim Fernandes, popularly known by his stage name Joe de Dicarpale, passed away at the age of 54.

A soft-spoken yet impactful tiatrist, Joe's contribution to Konkani theatre spanned over 35 years, during which he left an indelible mark on audiences with his versatile performances.

Hailing from Dicarpale, he was born on October 4, 1971. Joe completed his schooling at Loyola High School, Margao, and later graduated with a degree in Commerce from Damodar College, Margao. Professionally, he served as a Marine Inspector with the Captain of Ports.

Joe de Dicarpale’s journey in tiatr saw him collaborate with some of the most renowned directors on the Konkani stage, including Elvis-Carmen, John D’Silva, Cruz Pinto, and others. Among the many tiatrs he featured in are Darvontto, Devul Dhull, Don Voddeancho Paiem, Ekvott, Ghara Ieag, Oem Karponn, Jivit Amchem Oxem, Jivit Ostorianchem, Jivitache Roste, Jivitacho Arso, Kaideachem vo Faideachem, Kallkuttumb, Mogan Farik Korat, Monispann vo Devospann, Nattok Padre Pio, Pisollem, Policeranvotti, Rochnnar Sanklleo, Tin Fulam, Vallti, Voddemvollokh, Xiddkavnni, among others.

The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has expressed deep condolences over his untimely demise. TAG President, Anthony Barbosa, said, “The tiatr stage has lost one of its most talented and dedicated artists. Joe was known for his ability to bring diverse characters to life and was an inspiration to many young tiatrists.”

Vice President of TAG, Marcos Gonsalves, also paid tribute, stating, “Artists like Joe de Dicarpale are rare. He was not only an exceptional performer with immense experience but also someone who consistently encouraged and supported young talent on the tiatr stage.”

Arnaldo Costa, President of Non-Stop Tiatrist and Tiatristanchi Sonvstha, also conveyed his condolences. He said, “Joe de Dicarpale was a true pillar of the tiatr world. His loss is deeply felt across the tiatr fraternity. His dedication, humility, and encouragement of fellow artists will always be remembered.”

Joe de Dicarpale's legacy will continue to inspire generations of tiatrists. His contributions to Konkani theatre will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.
