Hazard a guess why Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant is optimistic of the Lotus blooming in Cuncolim in the ensuing polls? Well, one reason could be that Congress-turned-BJP MLA Clafaciobab Dias has decided to seek re-election on the Lotus symbol. Others may say CM’s sister is married in Cuncolim and his brother-in-law Videshbab Desai is a member of the Cuncolim Municipal Council. That’s, however, not the sole reason why the CM is optimistic over the BJP’s victory in Cuncolim. Sources say the CM is banking on the strong Desai vote to help the BJP win the seat. Any questions?
A twist to Cong ticket in Curtorim
Has South Goa MP Franciscbab Sardinha anything to say on Morenobab Rebello’s ghar wapsi in the Congress party? Well, the MP may say Congress doors are open for those who want to join the party. Political observers, however, say Morenobab’s entry into the party has come at a time when Sardinhbab had drawn up plans to get the Congress ticket for son Shalom for the Curtorim seat. The MP has openly batted for son Shalom after both Reginaldo Lourenco and Moreno had quit the Congress. Indeed an interesting twist to the race to the Curtorim Congress ticket.
Now, Curtorim BJP seat wide open
Morenobab’s ghar wapsi to the Congress has thrown up a question over the choice of BJP candidate for the Curtorim seat. Before Moreno’s induction into the saffron brigade, many had believed that BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa may be rewarded with the ticket given the work he had put in Curtorim constituency with a host of programmes. In fact, the Barbosa camp was left angry when the party roped in Moreno into the party as a probable candidate. With Moreno returning back to the Congress fold, the choice of the BJP candidate for Curtorim seemed wide open. Wait and watch.
When Goyal visited S Goa BJP office
When Union Minister Piyush Goyal visited the BJP South district office earlier this week, he was introduced to Margao candidate Dr Desh Prabhudesai and local leader Sharmadbai Raiturkar by Union Minister Shripadbhau. To the surprise of scribes, they overheard Piyush seeking to know whether Prabhudesai’s candidate has got the approval from Delhi. That’s not all. Piyush is believed to have given his piece of advise to Prabhudesai, insisting the latter should be ready to work for the party if his candidature does not find favour with the leadership. Interesting, isn’t it?
Satish Dhond has task cut out
Has the BJP all-powerful organising secretary Satishbab Dhond any magic wand with him to bring warring factions in Margao under one banner? This question has come to the fore as city-based leaders are openly questioning the party decisions on various issues including party candidate to take on Opposition leader Diggu. Sources say Satishbab, who is known for his no nonsense ways of handling party matters, has realised the bitter truth that dissensions is literally the order of the day in Margao. Wait and watch.
