Did Goa BJP’s campaign for K’taka elections bear fruits?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 14, 2023, 12:38 AM IST

As news of Congress’ return to power in Karnataka with a huge mandate trickled in on Saturday, Goemkars seemed more interested in ascertaining whether the BJP has won any seats where Goa BJP Ministers and MLAs had campaigned in the election. The social media was abuzz with persistent queries whether Goa government’s decision on paid holiday and to send KTC buses to boost the party’s campaign had in any way helped the saffron brigade. Ministers Vishwajitbab Rane, Subhashbab Faldesai, MLAs Ulhas Tuenkar, Daji Salkar, Premanand Shet and Joshua D’Souza had all camped in the Karwar-Ankola-Bhatkal-Kumta belt during the campaign. Wait and watch.

With Churchill inclining towards BJP, all eyes on son Savio

Varca strongman Bab Churchill’s announcement not ruling out the possibility of embracing the BJP makes reading interesting. For, on one hand, the former PWD Minister has announced plans to hand over the baton to son Savio in Benaulim. On the other hand, Churchillbab is giving indications that he would side with the BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, leaving many an observer to wonder how would Savio go about contesting the election in the minority stronghold of Benaulim where the BJP has no presence at all.

GPCC chief wary of Girish taking up issues in person

This may seem strange but true. If you ask the Congress camp headed by GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar whether the party has given his predecessor Girishbab Chodankar the nod to hold dharnas and agitations, do not be surprised if you come across a reply that the ex-GPCC chief is taking up the issues in his individual capacity. That, however, hasn’t stopped Team Girish to take up many a public issue in recent days, sounds strange, isn’t it when bureaucrat-turned-Congress leader Elvisbab Gomes too is taking up public issues under the Citizens for Democracy banner.

Oppn at MMC councillors’ party raises eyebrows

Many an eyebrow has been raised in Margao political circles after a group of ruling Margao Municipal councillors had a get together party somewhere around Quepem. Congress-turned-BJP leader Diggu too is reported to have made his presence felt at the get together for some time. Some of the ruling city fathers reportedly came with their family members. What has further surprised local observers was the reported presence of opposition backed councillors at the party. Any questions?

Father-son duo sets in motion smooth CMC change of guard

The father-son duo of Joaquim and Yuri Alemao seemed to have set in motion the process for the smooth transfer of power in the Cuncolim civic body. With incumbent chairperson Prof Laxmanbab Naik completing two years in office, there has been voices seeking a change of guard in the civic body. The father-son duo too was not averse in replacing the chairperson, but they had a problem since one of the ruling city fathers was holed up abroad. With the councillor confirming his return back home next week, a change in political guard in the CMC is expected to take place in the near future. Wait and watch.
