One Nation, One Election: Politicos see ray of hope to make comeback

Reports of ‘One Nation, One Election’ doing the rounds in political circles seemed to have generated keen interest amongst the politicos. If sources are to be believed, not just the sitting MLAs are anxiously looking forward for the special session of Parliament scheduled later this month, but many a defeated candidate equally seemed keeping a track on the developments. Reason: Many a politicians who lost in the 2022 Assembly elections see a ray of hope to return back to the Legislative Assembly in 2024 in the event ‘One Nation, One Election’ becomes a reality. Any takers?

Questions unanswered on letting down Kamat on MMC jobs issue

Cancellation of the recruitment process of the Margao Municipal Council by a government diktat has thrown up a host of questions. One, how come Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu could not save the day for the BJP-ruled Council, more so after the MLA had gone to the town, insisting that Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane would help to take the recruitment process to its logical conclusion. That’s not all.  Questions are being asked why the government did not bail out Diggu and save him from an embarrassing situation over the recruitments. Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

Will cancellation of jobs effect stability in BJP-ruled MMC?

Will the cancellation of the Margao Municipal Council’s recruitment process have a fall out on the stability of the 11-month old BJP-ruled Council? Well, political observers are on the job to find out the fall out of the government’s decision in the ruling BJP camp and whether the opposition Goa Forward is out to capitalise on the emerging political development. The scrapping of the recruitment process has not gone down well with councillors who were promised jobs for their siblings. Take note, the cancellation of jobs has come against the back drop of the recent development when Margao civic chief Damubab had threatened to quit after what he termed as being sidelined by Diggu. Wait and watch.

Warring Cong leaders play unity tunes at ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ anniv

After a tug of war to control the party affairs, the Congress party put up a facade of unity early this week when the first anniversary of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra offered a platform for warring members of the rival party to come together. Not only the warring leaders came together to play unity tunes, but leaders including GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar, his predecessor Girishbab, Opposition leader Yuribab, MP Sardinhbab, aspirants for the South Goa Lok Sabha ticket, besides couple of leaders who were suspended for indiscipline, were all prominently seen at the Lohia Maidan. Eyebrows raised over minister’s quiet visit at Cuncolim Ind Estate

Activists have been trying to find out whether any Minister had paid a visit to the Cuncolim Industrial Estate earlier this week and the objective behind the visit. The Cuncolim Industrial Estate had earned notoriety over the years for the rampant pollution, be it air or water pollution. What has raised many an eyebrow amongst the activists is that the Minister reportedly made a quite entry and exit from the industrial estate. What exactly was the Minister’s brief in the industrial estate, and why the visit was not publicised, many an activist have been left to wonder. Wait and watch.
