Football the next level for Thackerays in Goa?

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 21, 2022, 12:55 AM IST

It was a week when the Thackeray sibling, Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena leader, Aditya Thackeray descended on the Navelim grounds to launch the Goa Tiger Cup football championship, leaving the football fraternity in Saxttidom to wonder whether the Thackerays and the Shiv Sena are planning big time football in Goa. And, if sources are to be believed, the championship underway at three different venues in the State is an initiative of young Aditya, who has been instrumental in bringing the focus back on football in his home state. What’s Aditya’s football plan for Goa? Wait and watch.

Politicos mum over Kannadigas’ political plans

All Goa Kannada Mahasangh’s decision to contest the panchayat polls might have created a flutter in local political circles. Political observers have been trying to figure how many of the mainstream politicos came out to question the Mahasangh’s political plans. With migrants slowly emerging as a force to reckon with in many constituencies and politicos dependent on the migrant vote, sources say no mainstream political party or player can afford to antagonise the migrants. Wait and watch whether migrants settled in Goa from other states have similar plans.

Digambar & the Bodgeshwar temple vows

Whenever reports do the rounds in political circles over his plans to quit the Congress to embrace the saffron brigade, Diggu has been quick to deny and rubbish all reports. Sources close to Diggu wonder whether the Margao MLA will ever leave the Congress when he had in the recent past warned likely party hoppers that breaking the vow before the Bodgeshwar Temple will never go unpunished. Diggu, sources say, even makes a mention of politicians decimated for going back on the vows at the Bodgeshwar Temple. Any takers?

All eyes on Moreno’s next move

Congress Curtorim candidate Morenobab Rebello seemed on the job to recover lost ground and brace up for the next Assembly polls. He seemed to have taken his defeat at the hands of arch rival Reginaldbab Lourenco in his stride. He knows for sure that his decision to embrace the saffron brigade and return back to the Congress has cost him dearly. And, he also knows for sure those who have aligned with the saffron brigade will meet the same fate in the next elections. Wait and watch as Morenobab will take the platform of Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary to unveil his plans during the weekend.

Speculations over ‘M’ controlling SGPDA

Newly-appointed SGPDA Chairman, MLA Daji Salkar is reported to have wondered at the first meeting of the PDA whether he is heading the SGPDA or the MPDA. Take note, Daji was not referring to the Mormugao PDA (MPDA) he had headed in the past. PDA member Vijaibab Sardesai also tried to figure out for a moment what exactly was Daji trying to convey, before he told the media that the PDA Chairman was trying to find out whether the PDA was being controlled by a person with an initial M. Any questions?
