Ex-Goa Ranji opener Amonkar passes away

Former Goa Ranji opener Prasad Amonkar passed away due to Covid in a Panaji hospital on Wednesday morning. He was 56 and is survived by his wife and son. He was, not keeping well and was admitted in a private hospital, Margao. He was given discharge and was at his home at Shankarwadi Taleigao. After health complains he was again shifted to a private hospital at Campal where he succumbed to the deadly virus early morning on Wednesday. He was famous for his stylish and compact batting prowess. He played 22 First Class matches for the State and scored 778 runs with four half centuries. Prasad Amonkar started his cricket career from Model English High School, Margao and donned colours for Chowgule College and GEC Farmagudi. In domestic level he represented for his club Margao Cricket Club (MCC) and also captained MCC in GCA and other tournaments. He got employment through sports quota in Customs & Central Excise, Panaji. He shifted his residence and cricket in the city, where he played for Chowgule SC and Panjim Gymkhana. GCA President Suraj Lotlikar & MCC President Yogesh Naik expressed their grief.
